Diving isn’t just about looking around and enjoying the scenery. It’s also about being able to describe and share your experience to others or to enhance your memory by keeping more detailed records of your dive log. Fish identification is also a must for a responsible spearfishing practices.
Marine life identification can be divided into two sections: fish life & invertebrate life. This class will focus on identification of fish commonly seen while diving in southern California.

PFI Freediving Certification Course

Ready to take your diving to the next level? 

Join our Professional Level Freediving Certification Course taught by industry-renowned, freediving champion Seamus Callaghan. You will learn the fundamental freediving techniques for comfortable enjoyment in the aquatic world to depths of 20m/66ft. You will also practice Static Apnea to help develop your breath-holding abilities and in-water comfort. The techniques learned in this course translate to scuba diving as well, so even if you don't want to be a spearfishing champion, you'll definitely become a better scuba diver!

2026 New Year Party

New Date - OSDT 33rd Annual New Year Party

Dear OSDT Divers, Family, and Friends,

Due to weather concerns, our New Year Party is postponed to Saturday, January 10, 2026.

Let's welcome in the new year together!! Bring your family, and friends, including the furry ones (for their safety, please make sure they are leashed). We will have food & drinks, slide/video shows, and prize drawing. There is no charge for our party. 

Time: Saturday, January 10, 2026 from 11am - 3pm
Location: Ocean Safari Parking Lot

This event is a pot luck, so please bring one dish or BBQ meat and/or vegetable of your choice sufficient for 4 people (max 4 servings, otherwise we'll have too much food). 

BYOB - bring your own beverage/booz.

We will provide BBQ grill and ice chest.

Hang out with fellow divers and exchange diving stories.

We will have filtered water, so we encourage you to bring your reusable canteens. Please do not bring bottled water as a potluck item.
